Under an EPA Consent Decree, DeKalb County is required to develop and implement effective capacity, management, operations, and maintenance programs for its wastewater collection system, including a continuing sewer assessment and rehabilitation program.
As the lead engineer of the Design-Build for Gravity Sewer System Rehabilitation, Replacement, and Construction – Package 3 (DB3) project, R2T provided aerial surveying, environmental permitting and design services for the rehabilitation and replacement of approximately 30,000 linear feet of sanitary sewer line. Environmental permitting services included a pre-construction notification for the 404 permit, wetlands delineation, erosion control plans, and land disturbance permit applications. R2T field staff worked diligently to capture field conditions and accurately report all collected data. The design included survey coordination, geotechnical and SUE services, preliminary design, and detailed design for sanitary sewer pipes ranging from 8 to 30-inches in diameter.
Aerial mapping, in combination with traditional ground controls, were used to complete the survey in a short time frame. With so many disciplines involved to successfully implement this project, staying on schedule and finding ways to improve efficiency was critical for a smooth delivery. R2T was responsible for seven distinct design packages that were completed concurrently to meet the overall project schedule.
R2T has responded to the clients changing needs as the project progressed giving the client flexibility to manage multiple project priorities within tight schedule constraints associated with working under a consent decree. R2T staff of engineers and permit experts have provided the knowledge to guide the client from design to construction while effectively managing multiple disciplines in parallel to provide timely services.
