The replacement of the SR 153 bridge over the Altamaha River is taking place as proposed by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). The project consists of the construction of a replacement bridge for the existing structurally deficient bridge over the Altamaha River (Located at State Route (SR) 135/ US 221/ Uvalda Hwy) built in 1952.
The bridge consists of 41 spans of steel plate girders and rolled beams on H‐piles, and concrete columns under concrete caps. The design vehicle used for this bridge is below the current standards.
