R2T, Inc., as Prime Engineer provided Engineering Services to the Clayton County Water Authority for the design of the W.J. Hooper Water Production Plant (WPP) Residuals Handling Improvements project. The Hooper WPP can treat up to 20 million gallons of water per day (MGD) with a solids handling system consisting of two gravity thickeners, one concrete-lined Washwater Holding Basin (WWHB) and two belt filter presses. The project consisted of providing structural, process mechanical, civil, electrical and instrumentation upgrades to these components of the residuals handling train that will ultimately result in improved function, reliability and redundancy.
Working with CCWA, R2T developed multiple alternatives and developed a final alternative to address the existing residuals handling facilities’ limitations. R2T was responsible for assessments, detailed design services, permitting (submitted in compliance with the County Reservoir Management Plan, Henry County, and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division), cost estimating and value engineering. The project implemented several of R2T’s project control tools to maintain quality standards while delivering the project on-time and within budget.
