Hydraulic Modeling


Computational modeling can solve hydraulic and water quality equations for complex conveyance networks rapidly and accurately. Hydraulic models are powerful tools which engineers can use to investigate current system conditions, simulate future improvements, develop operational changes, and create capital improvement plans with optimal sequencing.

R2T’s modeling team boasts a wealth of experience in hydraulic modeling. From targeting sewer inflows, to SSO reduction, to customer demand forecasts and distribution emergency management, we will leverage emerging technology to advance every aspect of your infrastructure.

Areas of Expertise
  • Water Distribution. Simulations of hydraulic and water quality behavior within pressurized pipe networks, consisting of pipes, junctions, pumps, valves, storage tanks, and reservoirs, can be used to track the flow of water in each pipe, system pressures and tank levels, chemical constituents, water age, and source tracing throughout the network. R2T has built, calibrated, and implemented some of the largest and most complex piping in the country, and we stand ready to assist you with your network.
  • Wastewater collection. Collecting and conveying wastewater flow to a treatment plant in a reliable, economic, and compliant way is a challenging risk management exercise. R2T can model your system to help you understand your network’s choke points, identify problems, and choose the best course of action by leveraging tools that deliver proven excellence in hydraulic system analysis and design.  We are proficient at building and calibrating models and have also worked under the scheduling concerns of the consent decree environment, providing management of inspection data, prioritizing structural rehabilitation, and supporting procurement, all in parallel to hydraulic capacity analysis.
  • Stormwater Management Modeling. R2T has also built a body of experience designing stormwater features in challenging environments which unite green infrastructure with pedestrian traffic and the constraints of aesthetics in the modern built environment. We use the Stormwater Management Model (SWMM) to fast-track hydraulic calculations and find ways for our clients to thread a needle, maintaining compliance with stormwater regulations while minimizing financial investment and saving space for human uses.
  • Plant hydraulics. Treatment plant modeling can assist with problematic telemetry readings, a lack of definitive piping inventory, and flow distribution that does not match design. R2T’s modeling team has experience compiling SCADA data and field measurements to compare hydraulic simulations of what “should be” to what “is,” tracking down limitations to plant hydraulic capacity driven by subsurface infrastructure that outdates most plant operation staff. If your water or wastewater plant is misbehaving or subject to uncertain bottlenecks, we can help you reclaim that capacity with minimal expense.
