Future-Ready Waterways

The R2T Design Team provides engineering services for federal and municipal clients. Our experience includes: stormwater management designs and drainage plan development, including green infrastructure solutions; utilities; erosion and sediment controls; and spill prevention plans. We are proficient in the use of CADD systems (including 3-D technology), micro-station as well as the use of the latest hydrologic (TR-55, HEC series) and hydraulic analysis software.

Chastain Park Green Infrastructure Design

R2T served as the prime firm for the design of green infrastructure improvements at Chastain Park, one of Atlanta’s largest and most active public spaces. Selected as the winning concept in the City of Atlanta’s Green Infrastructure Challenge, the project focused on improving water quality, enhancing park amenities, and advancing innovative, sustainable watershed management practices. Located near the Chastain Park Amphitheater, the design addresses untreated stormwater runoff from adjacent parking areas and roadways that currently discharge into Hamburger Pond. R2T developed a solution centered on bioretention areas and tree wells that utilize engineered soil media and vegetation to promote infiltration and treat runoff at the source. The project also includes upgrades to aging stormwater infrastructure, including pipes and inlet structures. R2T led hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, engineering design, and coordination of subconsultants for survey, utility investigation, geotechnical analysis, landscaping, and erosion control. The team also worked closely with the City of Atlanta and the Chastain Park Conservancy to support public engagement through virtual platforms and accessible outreach materials.

West Manor Park

R2T served as the prime firm for green infrastructure and stormwater BMP design at West Manor Park in Atlanta, a community-focused park impacted by recurring nuisance flooding from surrounding residential drainage areas. The project, part of the City of Atlanta’s Green Infrastructure Challenge, aimed to reduce flooding, improve water quality, protect City infrastructure, and enhance park aesthetics. R2T developed a comprehensive design that integrates green streets, bioretention systems, and vegetated stormwater features to manage runoff from both the park and adjacent roadways, including Benjamin E. Mays Drive and West Manor Circle. The team led project management, design development from concept through final plans, permitting, and bidding support, while coordinating closely with stakeholders and incorporating community input through virtual outreach during the COVID-19 pandemic. The resulting design provides effective, maintenance-friendly stormwater treatment solutions that improve neighborhood conditions while blending seamlessly with existing park amenities.

Atlanta Beltline Northeast Trail

R2T, Inc. provided engineering services for the Atlanta BeltLine Northeast Trail Corridor Design, a key segment of a broader initiative to transform a former rail corridor into a 45-mile network of multi-use trails and future transit infrastructure around Atlanta’s urban core. Serving as a subconsultant, R2T led stormwater and drainage design, delivering both conceptual and detailed solutions tailored to constrained urban conditions.

Using SWMM5-based modeling, the team evaluated pre- and post-development conditions to design systems that meet runoff reduction, water quality, and flood protection requirements. Green infrastructure elements, including bioretention areas and enhanced swales, were integrated along the corridor to provide water quality treatment while enhancing aesthetics and long-term maintainability.

Through technical expertise, adaptability, and strong coordination, R2T delivered resilient and compliant stormwater solutions that supported successful project delivery within tight spatial and regulatory constraints.

Atlanta Beltline Southside Trail

R2T, Inc. provided engineering services for the Atlanta BeltLine Southside Trail Corridor, leading stormwater and drainage design for 0.84 miles of the 3.1-mile corridor and delivering erosion and sedimentation control (ESC) design.

Services included hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling, green infrastructure design, detention systems, drainage conveyance, permitting, and construction-phase support.  R2T evaluated pre- and post-development conditions to meet runoff reduction, water quality, and flood protection requirements. Green infrastructure features, including enhanced swales and bioretention areas, were designed to provide over 10,000 cubic feet of water quality treatment.

To address constrained right-of-way conditions, R2T designed underground detention systems and used 3D modeling to ensure constructability and maintenance access. The team coordinated closely with Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. and City agencies, overcoming challenges such as brownfield conditions and legacy infrastructure to deliver a resilient, compliant stormwater solution.

Our team combines expertise in ecology, GIS, and MS4 program support with a strong foundation in regulatory coordination. We have extensive experience in wetland delineation, permitting, watershed and stormwater management, and BMP development, with a proven track record of compliance and approvals. Our approach focuses on minimizing impacts, streamlining the regulatory process, and delivering practical, cost-effective solutions.

National Park Service Little River Canyon National Preserve

R2T provided civil engineering design and construction services for improvements at the National Park Service, Canyon Mouth Park Day Use Area within Little River Canyon National Preserve in Cedar Bluff, Alabama. The project addressed recurring flooding, improved site access and circulation, and upgraded aging infrastructure within a heavily used recreational area.

R2T conducted a detailed site assessment and designed replacement of an undersized entrance culvert to improve hydraulic capacity and resilience. Bank stabilization using gabion baskets was incorporated to reduce erosion and overtopping risks.

Additional improvements included reconfiguring the entrance drive for safer two-lane traffic, updated signage and pavement markings, and paving upgrades to previously gravel parking areas with ADA-compliant accessibility features. Services also included erosion control design, cost estimating, and bid support. The result is a more resilient, accessible, and sustainable park.

Virtual Design Construction (VDC) is an innovative way to approach infrastructure projects. R2T has the capability to utilize integrated building information modeling (BIM) throughout the entire life cycle of a project, developing and tracking actual progress against expected results.
